What is Timeline?
Timeline is a professional project timeline and Gantt chart editor built into Timezylla. It lets you create, edit, and share project schedules with your team — complete with tasks, milestones, dependencies, swimlanes, and critical path analysis.
Whether you're planning a product launch, tracking a marketing campaign, or managing a software sprint, Timeline gives you the visual clarity to see your entire project at a glance.
5 views for every workflow
Gantt View — The classic horizontal timeline. Tasks appear as bars, milestones as diamonds, and dependencies as connecting arrows. Drag to resize, click to edit, zoom from day to year.
Board View — Kanban-style columns (Not Started, In Progress, Done). Drag tasks between columns to update status. Great for agile teams.
Calendar View — See tasks and milestones on a calendar grid. Useful for deadline-focused planning.
List View — A simple tabular list of all tasks with sortable columns. Best for data-heavy review.
Resource View — Swimlane-based view organized by assigned team member. See who's working on what and spot overallocation.
Creating your first timeline
1. Go to Timeline in the sidebar.
2. Click '+ New Timeline' or choose a template from the Template Picker.
3. Add swimlanes (categories) like 'Design', 'Engineering', 'Marketing'.
4. Add tasks within each swimlane — set names, dates, priority, and assignee.
5. Add milestones for key dates (launch day, design freeze, etc.).
6. Draw dependencies between tasks by clicking the dependency button.
7. Toggle Critical Path to see which tasks can't slip without delaying the project.
AI-powered timeline generation
Click the AI button in the toolbar to generate a complete timeline from a text prompt or by importing Jira tickets. The AI creates swimlanes, tasks, milestones, and dependencies automatically — you just review and adjust.
Examples of prompts that work well: 'Plan a mobile app launch in 8 weeks', 'Create a marketing campaign timeline for Q3', 'Build a sprint plan for a React e-commerce site'.
Exporting and sharing
Export your timeline to PDF (landscape, presentation-ready), PowerPoint (fully editable slides), PNG/SVG (high-res images), Excel, or CSV.
Share timelines with team members via a share link. You can set password protection and control whether viewers can edit or only view.
